instruction
This portion of my portfolio demonstrates my ability to teach using a variety of different instructional strategies and communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
belief matrix
Before I began student teaching in August, I made a matrix that demonstrates my beliefs as a teacher and what I value in my teaching. I broke my beliefs up into different categories that each reflect on what I think are the most important aspects of my teaching. As shown below, I organized my beliefs up into instruction, classroom management, professional development, role of the teacher, curriculum, key skills to learn, community in the classroom and relationships. I printed out this belief matrix to have in the front of my Student Teaching binder so that I could remind myself of my personal values and beliefs as a teacher. I think my ability to instruct my students both vocally in my lessons and in writing when we would work on the chart paper stems from my belief matrix and what I feel is effective teaching instruction.

philosophy of education
My philosophy of education demonstrates my personal statement about teaching and learning as a whole. Similar to my Belief Matrix, this artifact demonstrates my general guide to instruction and how I view education as a whole. My educational philosophy is something that I personally refelct on nearly every day after I come home from school. I think back on my days and reflect on whether or not I demonstrated my beliefs clearly enough or if I needed to improve in a certain area. It can definitely be difficult to remember everything you beleive in and what you stand for as a teacher when you are teaching a lesson or working with a student. I think that in my role as a Student Teacher this semester I worked really hard to incorporate all that I have learned about being a successful teacher. I owe a lot of this hard work and motivation to my mentor teacher who has taught me all that I know about teaching young students. I think that my ability to successfully instruct a class of twenty students really shows in my tone of voice and my body language. As a Student Teacher, it took a little while to get used to instructing the students as if they were my own because I was slowly taking over from my mentor. Once I was teaching full-time, my students were listening to me carefully and almost always following my instructions correctly.
